As a consequence of the fodder crisis the rules were relaxed allowing on offset against the meal purchased. We re calculated and our increased allowance has increased significantly.
Our goal is to deal with soil fertility and I will use all this extra allowance just in case wthey reduce it again next year. It really makes a mockery of the limits imposed when at the stroke of a pen they can increase the limit.
Milk quotas are going but I think over zealous Dept implentation of rules could really become a limiting factor on highly stocked farm business'

half ton of grain per cow is it not? so 2.5kgs of Phos extra per cow but just to confuse issues they are basing the max figure on N excretion rates (talk of making things complicated)

My Teagasc man do for me over phone as he has my nitrates and area aid on computer answer immediately. No complication. I put new allowance on to the app on my phone. I got an increase of 75%.
Bob things can be a complicated or as simple ad you want them to be, depends on how you approach things!!!!!

Its worded complicated so by the wigs

The European Communities (Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Water) Regulations 2010 (Nitrates Regulations) require that for every tonne of concentrate fed, the maximum amount for application of available fertiliser in the form of Phosphorus is reduced by 5 kg’s. The amendment announced by both Ministers will result in the first ½ tonne of concentrate being fed per 85 kg N excreted (i.e. per each Dairy cow or livestock equivalents equalling 85kg’s Nitrogen excretion) being discounted when calculating fertiliser allowances.
Farmers are advised to take the total N excretion figure provided for their holding in their annual N and P statement and divide by 170. This figure is the number of tonnes of concentrate that can be discounted on the holding in calculating the maximum application rates.

using the above paragraph if you feed no meal are you allowed spread extra P. doesnt say it in that press release. Quickest way to work it out if feeding over a half ton of meal to your cows is, cow numbers X 2.5kgs of P = increase in P allowed to be spread in kilos. So for a hundred you would be allowed to spread 250kgs extra P. maybe my calculations are wrong as thats f all extra P. I havnt looked at this in detail as it makes no odds to me anyway as im governed by N limits and "export" surplus which looks like being a quarter to a half my N figure this year:eek:

I ave no idea how to calculate, but on the info provided by Teag I was allowed 70% increase. I have it in writing and they have PI cover I presume:)

70% increase on your artificial P figure I would think, which may have being tiny to begin with. Not 70% on your total P figure. I will have a look during the weekend to sus it out.

Correct 70 on artificial fert. Has your beet met in the drills by the way? The dry is really suiting it up here it looks to be flying

Your artificial allowance so was small to begin with.

over 80% coverage in some of it, over 50% coverage on all of it. biggest crop I ever grew didnt met in rows till 10th of July. We are on wide rows I keep telling myself.
