    Hi all,
I have come across this part time course in WIT and it looks like it could be of great benefits. I am your usual run of the mill sparky with loads of domestic experience and very little else. I was hoping this might help me in the future of trying for a job in maintenance and work in a manufacturing envoirnment. Its a 3 year course two nights a week. My question is has anybody out there completed this course or presently in one and what do they think??? Or to put it bluntly am I wasting my time because at the end of it I still wont have the experience in working in these places???
    Any advice or recommendations appreciated,
    Thanks.

By the way Im in Waterford if anybody knows of any other courses in the area that might be worthwhile doing in order to get a bloody job!!!!

I looked into doing the same course in lit.very much same situation as yourself.the whole thing would prob take me 4 yrs of evening classes and prob a couple of grand in diesel and prob end up divorced too!!!!I showed the course contents to the md of a big local plant and he dismissed the whole thing as being 'too broad'.he pointed out 3 modules to do only.im going to concentrate on these and also a computer language or 2.prob still take me 4 yrs!!

plc's/advanced plc's/3ph induction motors.ya did the first plc mod last semester, hard to get back into the whole study thing again but got thru it.will do adv plc's in September hopefully.you really should look into doing something with comp programming languages too,its the way forward.dont want to be crawling into attics for the rest of your days!!

Ye I totally get what your saying, to tell the truth they aint any attics around here I could be crawling in as I cant get a scrap of work!!!.Im currently out of work at the moment and it looks very pricy but it might be worth it in the long run. What exactly does your course cover and where are you doing it?? Thanks...

doing it in limerick.its pretty much geared towards sparks lookin to get into a manufacturing/engineering/maintenance environment.it is expensive.if I was to do the whole degree it would cost 5k approx.3 mods will cost me 1500 approx.imo I think you should pick 2 or 3 mods that suit your needs and try maybe get in somewhere before you decide to do any more.its hard to knw what to do but at least your tryin to do something, plenty out there happy to sit at hme on their ass!

Thanks for the advice, I think its worth it because imo there are no options left if you want to stay in this trade you need to upskill or hang around and wait for things to improve in the construction industry. What are the exact names of the mods as you call them so that I can check if wford do them. Also is it part time or full time??
