Hijacking a thread on sheep, is anyone willing to hazard a guess at the factory prices for cattle this back end?
I'll have lightish bullocks and heifers to go around October, November & December
Bullocks will be averaging 575kgs, heifers will be averaging 535kgs...
I sticking my neck out and going for a base price as follows:
    Bullocks: €4.20
    Heifers: €4.45
    Cows: €3.60- R's, €3.20- O's, €2.90- P's

Well considering 3 weeks ago u grade cows were making 4.15 and today quoting 3.70 (same for an R) for the same - if they keep that downward pace up.........

You are being optimistic IMO. I was reading the other night on the CSO website that cattle numbers are up 4% (260,000) compared to last year with an increase of 14% on male's up to 2 year olds( figures might not be exact). Thats a lot of extra cattle that'll be looking for a freezer come autumn. We all know what the factories will do when they have enough cattle to fill their order books. icon8.png

The great calf boom of late 2011 early 2012 will only start feeding into the system for the rest of the year which will as stated above help the factories.

Stop tormenting yourself lads wouldn't finish cattle if they could see that far ahead.

My guess is that cattle prices in the fall will be ba.. still a lot of people tight for fodder and there will be surplus stock around.. hence prices will be bad..
