Work Duties on CV

Firstly don't know if this is the correct place to post this, so if not please move to a more appropriate section...

So I'm just looking for a little advice as I'm currently updating my cv, and I'm finding it difficult to get the wording correct on the list of tasks and duties i'm currently responsibly for...

Current position is an assistant manager within the retail sector, duties include:
    +Delegation of duties
    +Managing KPI(Key Performance Indicators) and meeting KPI's
+Cash Management(Including daily lodgements, Change orders, Cashing registers up)
    +Implementation of Promotions(promotion change overs...)
+Stock Management(Including procedures to reduce stock wastage)

I'm just really struggling to keep it concise and to the point, while giving as much information as possible

    Cheers in advance

Honestly, the duties won't be that important. You've got the job title. The rest will be the punctuation and formatting? And then the references. Post the entire CV and see what feedback you get?

    From what you have posted:
The abbreviation of KPI and then writing it out in full - either it's a role which they know what KPI is (and then it will make them feel stupid if you spell it out), else, it's just a waste of space to write the abbreviation and then spell it out. Pick one or the other depending upon who you're sending it to?
The second point is about trust I guess - could 'change orders; be expanded upon? - 'I was being relied upon to update our ordering system to maintain sufficient levels of stock to maximise sales whilst keeping stock turnover to a optimal level'. Or something like that?

But yeah, the other points are good. It just depends upon in what context, the font size, your references, the covering letter etc. The mood of the person reading it is also important :p

I was spelling out KPI for the people on here just in case, as a mate of mine didn't know what it meant, and his a manager of a shop:eek:

Well my cv is pretty good I think, a few mates of mine have used mine as a template and they've got jobs, so it can't be terrible:P

What kind of retail is it? Irish, chain, multinational?

The KPI duty may go over the hiring managers head.

In that case why are you asking for help?!?!

Ahno, either way, if you're friends are using it as a template and getting jobs then I wouldn't be worrying? Sounds like it's in the bag if you put it out there. So time to focus on interview technique?

Well my problem is, my current job isn't on my cv and my previous jobs haven't had some of my current duties

When you say "Meeting Key Performance Indicators" you're just saying that you're doing what is asked of you. On its own it doesn't mean anything. What do you mean by "manage" them? Is that also the same as saying you did them, or does it mean that you had to set objectives for other staff?

What are the indicators and did you exceed them? Go into more detail on what you're responsible for. Did you increase revenue, introduce new processes etc?

Titles like "executive" and "manager" are used to describe a wide range of jobs - and it could vary depending on the size of the business. I'd definitely go into more detail and not rely on the job title alone.

Its food retail, Its a chain, which is a multinational(but the general public would probably be unaware of it)

Well from my experience food retail won't care about KPIs, the vast majority of the people i worked with in retail, for 10+ years wouldn't have a clue what a KPI is. It may be better to leave it off but have an answer for it if asked in an interview. Perhaps reword it, if you are using the KPI for personnel reviews I'd phrase it that way, managing performance reviews, if you use them for ensure processes are on track I'd phrase it that way.

Majority of KPI's are set centrally, but I have to set certain KPI's for individual staff members...

The main KPI's are sales, Units(of stock sold), and couple of others which i'd prefer not to post on here

Lidl, Aldi and Dunnes all use KPI's(or at least ask about them during interviews), well thats according to a work mate whose interviewed with these companies

Don't get hung up on buzzwords. Every job should have KPIs - all it means is how they judge your performance. So saying you meet them just means that you're doing what your job entails; unless I'm missing something that's very specific to retail.
Majority of KPI's are set centrally, but I have to set certain KPI's for individual staff members...

So I'd say that something like you're responsible for setting (and presumably assessing) the objectives of staff.

Don't rely on someone to read between the lines on your CV. As I said a "manager" in one company could mean something quite different to another company. It could mean managing an aspect of the business and/or it could mean managing a team of people with all the related HR duties.
The main KPI's are sales, Units(of stock sold), and couple of others which i'd prefer not to post on here

Cool, didn't mean for you to list them here; I understand it's confidential. I just meant that you should expand upon them in your CV.
