whitewash

Hi I need to paint my out houses with white wash and would be grateful if anyone can give me help on how to mix it and the best way to apply it. I have plenty experience of ordinary paint but no experience with white wash.

This go me thinking of how I did this at home when I was young. The hard part was getting a consistent mix so that the final appearance looks regular. This is important as it takes a bit of time for the final finish to emerge. I suggest you do some experimentation on an area which is out of sight.

Basic materials are
Lime
White cement
Water
Salt is mentioned but I did not use any

Mix in a large bucket or small barrell either with a mixer paddle of length of timber. Paddle is best as the solids will tend to setttle out so it will need to be regularly (to keep mix consistant = consistent finish)

I applied with various brushes
