What songs should be banned from the radio.

I'll get the ball rolling with the following

    P!nk - Try
    Bastille - Pompeii

Feel free to add to the list :D

I remember working in a Centra where the radio was tuned to one of those awful Skanger FM stations, and "Now You're Gone" by Basshunter came on at least once an hour. To this day I shudder when I hear a snatch of it.

    Easy.
Gotye - Somebody I Used To Know
Especially when played over Newstalk's Quotes of the Week bit on Fridays. Just anticipating that 'plink, plink, plink' stuff makes me tense.
    Ban it now.

"Some Nights" by Fun. It is aural violation, and is 4 minutes of some hipster cunt shouting tunelessly into a microphone.

Oh, and there's this awful song which kinda has a big band blaring in the background with trumpets etc. while some bint garbles something like "I really want a baby".

Continuing the Pink theme - Just Give Me A Reason - sounds like it was composed by a tone-deaf infant on a toy piano

How has no one mentioned hey ho by the lumineers? Can't move for that song!

    AC/DC - Thunderstruck

One of the most overplayed, cliched "Oh look, I'm the cover DJ so I can get away with playing this aren't I great?!" songs.

Anything by Pink. For someone who's name is a pretty striking colour, she's a master at being utterly bland.

I hate to say it, but pretty much all ac/dc falls into that category. Classic radio nova carry on: "get ready for the raaaawwwwk no other station plays", cue bon jovi, AC/DC, gnr or fucking journey. Really edgy lads!

    This times x10000000000,
Lived beside a university gym in south america a few months ago, and for 6 weeks straight...for about 2 hours from 6am to 8am they'd play it at least 4 times an hour...drove me insane. I'd like to hang that Gotye guy by the nutsack and let him listen to his ****ing song over and over.

I'm going to be bold and say Don't Stop Believing by Journey. I don't think there's a radio station that doesn't play this a good bit, and the band have had other songs, which I think are better. Ok, so other Journey songs are played, but not nearly enough as the above.

I will agree about the Gotye song. There was a time up until recently, I'd be tormented with it at least a couple of times a day.

    Other songs:

Florence and The Machine - Spectrum
Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are
    Kings Of Leon - Fans

Just some of a good few songs!

American Pie, and all 157 verses of it, usually favoured by the master debater Neil Prendeville on Cork 96FM.
The 96FM DJ's seem to love playing that song, as they can take two week's holidays in Majorca and still get back in time before the song finishes.

Irish radio is brutal altogether, pirate stations FTW !!

But seriously the only decent station at the moment is Nova and even then I wouldn't regard it as great. Worst is defiantly Spin 103.8, same muck over and over again. Q102 isn't far behind either, at one stage it would repeat the same song three/four times a day.

When stations begin to play songs too many times I begin to hate them :pac:

Songs that should be banned though are:

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now (coming from a queen fan)
All Ed Sheeran songs, especially A-Team.
    Daft Punk - Get Lucky

..........there's more but I'll leave it at that for the moment.

With regards to the limited playlists of stations such as Spin 1038, Spin South West and Beat 102 103 etc, the stations themselves relaly have no choice but to regularly repeat songs. Beat's Niall Power explained most of this here last year : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=79425780&postcount=63

These stations do reguarly repeat songs but only for a certain length of time. Sure Beat replayed Passenger, Pink etc but dropped them down from heavy rotation to about once a day after about 2 months. Come back in 2 months time and Daft Punk, Robin Thicke etc will have been replaced by new songs.

If you want to give out about a station give out about FM104. They have had Passenger and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on heavy rotation since January and at a guess they still do.

Anything Spin 103.8 play.On the unfortunate occasions when I forget my headphones for the gym I always end up rushing through my session as fast as possible just to end the assault on my ears by it's 'DJ's' and their 'music'.

I used to listen to Dermot and Dave a lot before Christmas and just after and im sure that they played this song each day for 4 months, I cant claim to have listened everyday but if I caught an hour of it I was sure to hear it. Instant channel change.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 14,618 Mod ✭✭✭✭marno21

At a guess all the music on 98FM is playlisted and Dermot and Dave have little choice over what they play. 98FM have a "pick the hits" promotion where you can do a quick survey on what 98FM play and whether or not you like it

Three others to add that were played in a row earlier:

Noah And The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N
    Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Paddy Casey - Saints And Sinners. In fact, anything by this chap does my head in, apart from Addicted To Company, perhaps!

    The 1975 - Chocolate
+1 for Pink, Macklemore, Daft Punk
Blanket ban on Republic of Loose and Damien Dempsey, cheers

Things can only get better. I don't even know who sang it.

    Relight my fire- Take that.

I also love those stations who say " X station - supporting Irish Music" and then play some U2/Van Morrison/the Corrs/Paddy Casey, as if no new music has been released by Irish artists since circa 1994.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,180 ✭✭✭hfallada

Firework by katy perry or anything from her. She has milked the **** out of that album.

Like the first line of firework" do you ever feel like a plastic bag blowing in the wind?". Like wtf?

"Get Lucky" by Daft Punk. So overplayed. Must be one of the most overplayed songs on the radio.

  • Posts: 13,688 ✭✭✭✭ Anna Creamy Thriftiness

Woah, I could have a substantial list here.

I'll begin with anything by Maroon 5 and Will.I.Am
