Steinhart ... pay straight to bank a/c?

I've been looking for a good automatic watch for some time now, nothing too fancy.

I really like the look of the Steinhart Apollon here. http://www.steinhartwatches.de/de/Apollon-Chronograph,496.html

Now ... I went to place the order just now ... and my options are (a) paypal or (b) bank to bank transfer. Either option incurs a 15 euro surcharge.

I was expecting to pay by credit card ... this appears not to be an option.

    Now, I don't use paypal, so I don't have a paypal a/c.

I am reluctant to use the bank to bank transfer, as the destination a/c looks like a private individual, not a company.

What would you guys do? Is this common enough in the watch world?

    Anyone here dealt with Steinhart?

A good few of us have bought directly from them - certainly no problems on the payment side anyway (I can't remember if I paid by paypal or not though).

Definitely a German thing this using straight bank transfers so I wouldn't necessarily be put off by it at all.

Having said that, why aren't you using Paypal? If you've a credit card, then registering it with Paypal is the simplest and safest option overall (e.g. the procedure for making claims is a lot more straight forward using Paypal than going through your Visa provider).

fair enough ... I'll swallow my pride and create a PayPal a/c so.

    thanks for the wisdom

point of clarity ... i was wrong about 15 euro surcharge ... it's actually 15 euro shipping, which is quite reasonable

The German retail banking system is surprisingly archaic. Credit cards are far less common there than here.

I bought from Steinhart, before I had a paypal account, and did the straight transfer to their bank account with no issue whatsoever arising.

Paypal is a grand system for buyers. Gives decent buyer protection too. Handy to have an account.
