    Hi guys

I need your help. My mother who is a single parent recently stopped receiving her lone parent allowance as her youngest child is now 22.

She works 5 days a week for 2 hours a day taking home a paltry 122 euro. This is her only income and not enough to live on since her youngest is still in college.

is she entitled to anything from the government in terms of benefit? she has rang a couple of places but sadly no luck or much help.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i hate seeing her struggle
Id love to help out but myself and my husband aren't doing that great either

if ive left anything out or need more info etc let me know

    thanks a mill

    shygal:)

She needs to get to the citizens information office asap as I think she could have been abvle ot move to BTEA or another scheme while in receipt of the OPF payment but I am not so sure now that she no longer gets this payment.

If she was able to do a course she would get a SW payment and may be able to keep doing her job for 2 hours per day as well.

    thanks for your help

my worry is I really doubt that she would want or even be able (physically and mentally) to go back to education. She is happy working her 10 hours per week

She wont qualify for jobseekers allowance as she is working every day, but she may be eligible for a "top-up" from the community welfare officer depending on what her earnings from her employment are. Tell her to get herself down to her community welfare office and explain her situation to them

The only thing about getting a top-up is she won't qualify as she won't have an open social welfare claim as she is not available for work as she is working 2 hours a day. It's a catch 22

She will not need to have an open sw claim. CWO has the authority and discretion to give a top up in cases like this.

They are not going to top up someone's payment indefinitely. She needs to be available for full time employment and actively seeking work and have an open claim. If this was the case a lot of people would work 2 hours a day and get topped up.

She doesnt have to have an open claim. I have seen cases where the cwo will top up a persons money. Obviously it cannot be paid indefinitely but it will give her a chance to find something full time or with more hours or she could try and have the job consolidated into 3 days a week.

She should check if her time on lone parents counts towards the Part Time Job Incentive Scheme. I don't think it does, but its worth checking.

Another option for her might be a CE scheme.

Not bad for ten hours work. I've seen worse rates.
