Moths in house

    I live in Dublin near a canal. This summer I have a lot of moths in the house. I leave the bathroom window open every day and this is where I find a few, maybe 2 or 3 each day. I shut this window before I put on the light. I think they are coming in from outside.

    I am wondering if there are more moths around this year?
    The ones I have look very like clothes moths. Am I risking having an infestation?
    I cleared out the hot press and didn't see any moths. We do not have any rugs or carpets. I had a foxford pure wool blanket stored in one wardrobe but that looks fine.

    The moths are small and fragile, wings have a golden colour with some dark spots. They have long feelers. They don't seem to be madly attracted to light.

    I would appreciate some reassurance from anyone with a bit more moth expertise than me!

    It could be Caddis flys.Being near the canal.The Larvae live under water and usually hatch during the day.

    Of the 1,000+species of moths in Ireland, only about 5 regularly live indoors and cause issues. Non of these have long feelers.

    Any others species indoors are probably there accidentally.

    As thebishop mentioned they may well be caddisflys which do have long feelers.

    For anyone with garments etc that are being attacked, put them in the freezer. This will kill the adults, caterpillars and eggs, though may need to be in freezer for couple weeks to kill eggs.
