as title says my springer bitch is limbing badly, and seems to be getting worse, i brought her out for a run during the wk, now due to an influx of work( after a long dry spell) i havnt had the time to bring her out in awhile, but before this i was was out with her atleast 1/2 times a day and noticed her lift the rear right paw now an again, she did get a badish gash 2mths ago over her hock but it wasnt too deep on same back leg, there is no visble thorns ,cuts on pads or split nails or stones inbedded in the nails, :confused:i dont want her to go lame as she is my first springer an only gone 2yrs old and starting to come into her prime, i know the vet would be the first option suggested (they.re expensive)just would like to know do any of u would have any idea what else it could be causin it, it would hardly be gettin the gash that time:confused::confused: and the scar healed well im at a loss, i will bring her to the vet if i have too, have any of you had this happen? thanks p.s

If its th same leg as the gash I wonder was and still is something stuck in it.

Did the dry spell of walks correspond with the gash and your starting back walking now.

It's hardly an infection or anything.

thanks for replies lad , yeh washed out the gash, and and made sure it was free from dirt etc. and put a cream that i got of the father in law on it, for cuts grazes for dogs , im leaning towards the fact that i hadnt had her out for at least a month maybe it got a bit tender 1st time out:confused: she was fine long after the gash, and i just noticed her lifting the leg slightly after an hour or so when out for a ramble ,then i get busy so i hadnt time for a month to bring her out at all, but gone from 5 oclock in the morning til 10 at nite 7 days a wk , i will head to the vet and see what he says like one op said your dog is priceless and i very much value my dog after all with out them you,d be lost il let ye know how we get on

One thing I've found that clears up an old wound fast, is bathing the affected area in warm salty water.

ya shes probably just got some muscle waste from the injury. Keep gently working her and getting her to maybe swim or retrieve in long grass to properly work her legs out. When you work the leg with your hand does she display and discomfort. One of my dogs started to develop a limp in his hind quarter last year and it turned out to be hip dysplasia, but this is only common in older large breeds of dogs.

It could be anything from soreness following the cut to infection to a foreign object in the leg. At the other end of the scale it could be a torn cruciate or even arthritis ...........so if the lameness persists bring the dog to the vet. That's what they are there for

hi lads/lasses thanks for all replies and suggestions as reliable and helpfull as ever, thanks i bein bring her out on short walks and she doesnt seem hindered by it and hits cover as per normal(along the roadside and long grass at edges of canal not in fields tho!!) and have bein letting her swim an watching her and just seems every now and again she just lifts the leg an limbs abit im just thinking as an op said muscle maybe tender because of lack of excerise this last month, il just ease her back into it gently but will be goin to vet to make sure no perment damage could have/or was done i think the world of her ,so will let ye know what vet says thaks all p.s

A1 on that or a bit of savlon solution, my springer had a bad infection last season due to a wound between his toes that he kept licking. The savlon and antibiotics did the trick.
