2 PC's, one ethernet cable, online at the same time

Hi all, would appreciate some advice on connecting two PC's through one Ethernet cable. In our house we had two PC's connected to a router through two separate Ethernet cables, all in the same room.

We've now moved both PC's to another room, while the router has to stay in the original room.

We've run an Ethernet cable from the router to one of the PC's; a distance of about 10 meters or so.

What's the best way to connect the second PC also? They'll both be used for gaming online at the same time.

Is there some kind of switch we can get that will split the single Ethernet connection and still let us both play at the same time? Will our speeds be effected sharing one cable?

Or is it best to just keep it simple and run a second long Ethernet cable?

We're on UPC if that makes any difference.

    Thanks.

something like this would work but you would be better off running 2 cables

Thanks Skerries, something like that would be a lot neater.

But can you confirm that both PC's could be online at the same time with a splitter like that? We could sign into different Steam accounts for instance, and play at the same time? I'm a little confused on that side of things.

Would there be a noticeable drop in speed using a splitter too?

    A wireless card?

UPC boxes have multiple cat connections and wireless don't they? My older model has 4 cat cable connections and wireless.

Yeah one of the PC's has a wireless card, but it's quite unstable. We'd like the stability of a constant cable connection.

That Splitter won't work. At least not to have both online at the same time.

As you suggested yourself OP, you need a switch. Something like this will work and you should have the same speeds on both PCs.

sorry I misread your post saying you wanted to use 2 pc's at the same time
you would be better using a switch in the second room or try going wireless with Homeplugs

Thanks a lot Avns1s, that looks perfect then if it allows us both online at the same time. Will give it a go tomorrow :)
