I plan on buying a road bike, but I have very little knowledge about bikes. I've been to my local bike shop an have looked at these two bikes. I would just like to know what your guys thoughts are on these two bikes or any other similar bikes.

    Thanks.

Wouldn't go for the Longcliffe at that price, the gearset is pretty poor (Shimano 2300) even though the frame is decent. My training buddy rides a Forme with a carbon frame and 105, pretty good bike.

Is the Claud Butler a 2013 or 2012 make? If it is the 2013, then it would be much better. The gearset on the Roubaix (Sora) was overhauled in 2013, much better now. If it's the 2012, I would avoid.

Most people on here would recommend looking into the second-hand market in that price range, undoubtedly that's where you can get the most value if you're prepared to wait until something good comes along. Helps if you're based in Dublin.

This bike also represents great value. That brand is becoming increasingly popular, I see more of them around all the time. Comes with the best gearset (Shimano Tiagra). Haven't ridden one myself, but they get very good reviews on this forum. Decathlon are based up in Belfast.

Thanks very much for your help, the longcilf was on sale at 520, I think but i see that there is a 2013 claud butler in another bike shop near buy on sale at 630. The roubaix i was looking at was a 2011. The triban looks very nice, will look into them.
