you get what you pay for, pretty flimsy really , I had to send mine back as the sd slot was broken, but the replacement is ok , just be gentle with it .

    it's €30 for a reason.

I had one, Had it a year - most I did with it was get a 16gb card and install Linux..
Then it was in a box for the rest of the year so I sold it.

However now I have plans to buy another one as well, the models now are better than they were when they first came out and build a mini pc for the car...

    I have ideas me.....

    I bought one. But I don't own a TV :\

I have a mate who bought one. then bought a special metal case. A huge memory card and all the most expensive extras you could imagine. Cost 200 euros in total.

Just ordered one I have several ideas in the works, one is to use text to speech have an external speaker connected to the Pi and have it set to download a news websites RSS feed hourly and output it through the speakers.

Maplins prices are disgraceful for almost everything, they are literally robbing you every tine you buy something in there.

I got RPI a few days ago, so far I have it set up to stream from most of the popular free movie sites (icefilms etc) but I'm planning on setting it up to play old games like magadrive and super nintendo.

I use them in work to control various bits of hardware with python, tho I probably use Arduino boards more.

An Arduino board is a microcontroller. You program it do to X, it does X forever.
You can hook it up to sensors and spit out data via a serial port or control some robotics or something. Think of it as a programmable circuit board.
It has no file system, it just runs the simple program it's been given.

The Raspberry Pi is a tiny, low power ARM based computer running some flavour of Linux. You can do almost anything with it you can imagine doing with an old PC. You can make games in Python, interpret and store that data your Arduino is writing out, play HD video from an external drive and output it via HDMI to a TV (with XBMC for example). You can use it to browse the web (albeit slowly) or as a way to learn about Linux and the command line. The OS is stored on an SD card that you can easily flash back to default you you can mess with is as much as you like. You can pop in different SD cards for different usages.

From both an industrial and academic perspective both are a great way to avoid costly solutions like Matlab and LabView for mechatronics and other similar projects.

This is the coolest project I've seen so far.

Guy re-porgrammed his microwave with voice commands and a barcode scanner. So you can scan the barcode of the product your are microwaving and it will read the cooking instructions from a database.
