I started doing a 4670k build and realised it's not worth the extra cost over a 3570k one. It was costing €100 more for something that will only have 10% max extra performance, in the cpu only, as a better cooler is needed for the hotter Haswell.

I ended up with this. Went for a 250gb ssd as well. There's still room in your budget for a good sound card if you need it.

    Item|Price
    8GB-Kit G.Skill Sniper PC3-14900U CL9-10-9-28|€60.44
    Powercolor HD7950 PCS+ 3072MB GDDR5|€261.21
    Intel Core i5-3570K Box, LGA1155|€202.90
    ASRock ZH77 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€68.71
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD|€29.18
    Samsung SSD 840 250GB SATA 6Gb/s|€140.79
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€56.93
Nanoxia Deep Silence Two Dark Black, ohne Netzteil|€81.12
    2 x Enermax T.B.Silence 14x14cm|€17.98
be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 7 500W|€53.42
    Sharkoon Fire Glider Gaming Mat|€6.99
    Perixx mx-2000 mouse|€29.00
CM Storm Quickfire TK Mechanical Keyboard|€60.00
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€1080.69

Nope afaik the ZH77 has overclocking. I'm not sure what the difference in the boards is.

Spec wise they seem almost identical.

well that one is h77 chipset

I get confused with all these chipsets but as I understand it H77 is the same as B75 with raid support.

The Z77 supports raid anyway. So how is ZH77 different?

that board uses the h77 chipset

edit: actually im not sure what you mean, i forgot i already said it was the h77 chipset in my earlier post. there are differences but whether or not they are relevant to this build is another matter, they may not make any difference to what the op needs

It has overclocking features though does it not unlike h77 chipsets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

well it has turbo boost 2.0 but their product page also states 'Supports Intel® K-Series unlocked CPU' for the z77 but not for the h77. also the zh77 doesnt support the faster ram speeds, above 1600

I can't find any reviews for it or more concrete information but go with z77 board if you aren't sure.

If sticking with the zh77 you could drop down to 1600mhz ram. It won't make any difference to gaming performance anyway.
