    Hi,

are a husband and wife assessed seperately for CAT or jointly. I'm being gifted some money which would make me liable for arount €1500 CAT but I wonder if my spouse was gifted some of this money would it be seen as one gift anyway given that we are married?

Not trying to evade tax, just avoid it if I can! :)

    Cheers.

You have a threshold based on your relationship to the doner. Your wife has a seperate threshold based on her relationship with the doner.

So you are not jointly assessed, all gifts within that class are aggregated for the individual and there is a small gift exemption of €3000 per gift.
