How long are you leaving it run with the stroke on?

Tried variations from 10 seconds up to a few minutes. Revving and not revving etc. Same every time. Cuts out when choke closed.

I'll try mine this evening. It'll be straight back to Aldi if it doesn't work.

Sure whats the problem if it works with the choke open? Or will this cause an issue over time?

It'll coat the spark plug with soot (as it's burning without the correct air mixture) leading to harder starting over time.

Dependant on your confidence you could try the below.

There's probably two screws on the back of the engine near where the choke lever goes into the body of the engine. (I'm only comparing it to petrol strimmers/chainsaws). One is the mixture screw, the other the tickover/idle speed screw. The speed screw is usually with a spring behind it. You should be able to turn the speed screw by hand up slightly to stop it cutting out with the choke off. (They may be covered by a plastic cowl that only a screw driver fits through). If that doesn't work then the mixture screw is probably set wrong. Bit more involved messing with that... so up to you if you want to proceed.

The manual doesn't say anything about the mixture setting? On my petrol strimmer it says the mixture is set to one and a quarter turns from fully in (Says this is the factory setting but can be made leaner). Mine was running rich so I turned it to one turn from fully in.

But like I mentioned if you aren't happy with trying the above, take it back for a refund. Safety first and all that!

With the Lidl/Florabest chainsaw, you have to adjust the screws to get the mixture and idle speed correct.

Its usually 1/4 of a turn on the screw, with a screwdriver.

So I rekon thats what the probllem is wth the Aldi one.

    Its a very easy/simple fix.

One thing that occurred to me - are you using fresh petrol/2 stroke oil?

I remember having lawn mower problems before and was tearing my hair out until someone suggested fresh juice.

Just started mine. Started with the choke in the off position after failing to start with choke on. Is it possible you're getting them mixed up?

So are people happy with them? Looking to get a strimmer, have a large garden but it needs "trimming" more than anything else, very little heavy cutting but it will take the guts of an hour to get around all the nucks and crannies with a strimmer.

Parts would be my worry with these if they go wrong.

Happy With the Hedge Trimmer but it is very heavy... after about 30 minutes of use my arm felt like it was going to fall off!!

Better than going to the gym though i suppose!!

Its very heavy especially with a full tank but it will do a job that would take a hour or two with an electric trimmer in 30 mins or less.

But I've had a few issues with this trimmer since last year:

    1. very hard to start up after its been sitting in the shed for a couple of months
    2. when i got started it was working last year no problems, but this year it will eventually start but cut out after meeting some resistance on branches
    3. the blades operate without me pressing down on the trigger

I tried this weekned to adjust the screws mentioned here but to no avail. I am contacting Aldi CS now about it to see what they can do.

Their not bad at all but for me, but its the difference between 30 mins and a sore arm and 2-3 hours trying not to cut the cable :o
