    Hi,

We're looking to get unoccupied house insurance for our house whilst it is being refurbished. The usual insurance companies don't seem to cover this scenario. Can anyone recommend a company or broker who would provide good value here.

    Thanks

Unoccupied properties is one risk main stream insurers in Ireland dont like to take. Insurance Brokers will have couple of options on the Lloyds books.

FBD will do it, but you must board up the windows, disconnect gas etc.

Similar situation a couple of years ago - own insurance company wouldn't touch it - and they actually voided my existing policy once they heard we were moving out to make way for the builders.

Opened a policy with Glennons.ie - fitted perfectly.

can't remember all the details - but recollect that it covered the remaining contents (that we didn't take to the rental) and covered the building itself.

But understandably it stopped short of covering the aspects of the building that the contractor was going to be touching - his own insurance was covering those aspects (I made a point of getting a copy of that before engaging him!)

Needed this last year and http://frostinsurances.ie/ offered the best quote for us.

A really good broker that helped us out was Travers Insurance in Wicklow. Excellent advice and great cover.

It does not cover that much in my experience and usually what it does cover would not happen with the conditions that are imposed. I had an unoccupied house a few years ago that had a leak during the very cold snap, not covered, esb and water have to be off, no contents only thing really covered was lightning damage, fire by arson or storm damage
