    Guys

Im looking to get a new clutch done on a fiesta zetec 2000. I can get the parts on misterauto for 135 and the average labour would be circa 4 hours from what i see online. I've got quotes from a few mechanics all around the 450 mark but if i provide the parts i can get it done for circa 350 at 50 euro an hour labour.

I appreciate that alot of mechanics wont want to use provided parts for obvious reasons but its a 13 year old car so i need to keep costs to a minumum.

Any suggestions on a mechanic that would do it? I'm south Dublin based if that helps.

    thanks

I've started using Coolmine Motors for a lot of the work on my E30 - just supplied them with shocks, top mounts, subframes, brake discs, pads, dust guards - quite a few bits all in, and they're happy to to fit.

They're generally very cheap on supplying parts anyway - but I was pretty specific in terms of what I wanted to put on the car, and their suppliers wouldn't have had some of what I wanted.

Last time I used them their labour rate was significantly cheaper than €50 an hour :) Very happy with the work they've done to date for me - if you're phoning, ask for Marius.

Any garage that is run by somebody who is using the head will just bump up the price of labour when they are fitting parts supplied by the customer. Otherwise they are just doing exactly the same work as if they had supplied the parts but for less money, which isn't a very good business strategy in any walk of life ;)

I think supplying parts to a mechanic is a mess. Just let them use what they think is appropriate.

As you said, a mechanic must make a margin, and won't do a job for less than it is worth.

Anyway, unless you are VAT registered, a lot of the saving will be gone on paying additional VAT by buying parts from a different source!

If your supplied parts have a small problem/fault who do you think is gonna pay for taking the gearbox back out?

    False economy.

Unless you're getting something like a DMF fitted. The price difference can be a few hundred euro between here and the UK.

I even got prices for a wheel hub/bearing from a few factors here and the cheapest was double than the OEM part I could get deliverd from the UK.

Even if the garage bumps up the price then it usually works out a lot cheaper. I've no problem with the garage bumping up the price.

I recently got an Eibach Prokit and Bilsten B8's from the UK and Germany and saved a few hundred euro from buying online. Got 3 quotes from Irish suppliers first.

Recently my wiper blades came apart while driving and I had to stop at the nearest motor factors. €30 for Bosch, no choice but to buy them. Checked online and €14 delivered to my house.

Sick to death of Irish prices tbh.

Not sure if they were aero, but the ones I priced were the same as I bought form the factors.

if they are standard bosch wiper blades you are shopping in the wrong motor factors....if they are bosch aero blades ( the new style rubbery looking blades) then that is in and around the going rate for them.

also...dont forget overheads in ireland are a lot more. Rents are probably double...wages are nearly double..sure even to take out an ad in the golden pages is 3 or 4 times the cost it is in the uk so obviously the price of the product is going to be a bit more exspensive
