Was wondering if anyone could suggest a cheaper version of captain morgan.

I've tried Sailor Jerry instead of Morgan's with orange and thought it was similar enough. Not sure if it works out much cheaper though.

You can get recipies online for spiced rums, you can add stuff to white rum and let it sit a while.

there is one called 'Asmussen Original Spiced Gold', meant to be similar but a lot cheaper

Dunnes do a cheap knockoff called 19 spiced rum. It comes in a 500ml bottle and costs around €13 I think.

Morgan Spiced Rum is a knockoff version of it - generally about 25-40% cheaper.

Capt Morgan is already an entry level bog standard rum, anything cheaper will probably be quite rough.

I think the Havana Especial rum is spiced. Best place for rum in Dublin is Celtic Whskey Shop on Dawson St.


Old Sea Dog is a dark rum. Morgans and Captain Morgans is the same thing afaik. I don't really know why people go for spiced and flavoured rums over just normal white or aged rum. The spiced stuff gives me heartburn.

Chances are that anything cheaper will be much the same quality but without a huge marketing budget.
