I know that Peugeot have got a good reputation for their diesel engines, but anyone any idea or experience of their 1.6 petrol engines around 2005-2007?

I have an 06 1.8 petrol. It has been giving me terrible trouble recently. Niggly electronic things eg. When we had a cold spell the computer was adding extra petrol to the engine to compensate for the cold temperature. 3 wks after the cold spell the car wouldn't start as the computer hadn't corrected itself and was flooding the engine as it thought it was still cold outside. Recently, I was abroad for 3 weeks and the car is completely dead. Can't wait to get rid of it asap.

From 06 onwards, this engine was used in the Mini; i've had two of the 180bhp turbo'd versions and have had no problems. Nippy etc at that power output. Can't be that bad given the number produced. BMW subsequently extended it to the 1 series as well.
