    how often do you need to replace brake pads or how do you determine if they need to be replaced?

    Most pads have a wear indicator on them along the top edge when you look down on them from above. If you're at this, or you can't see it, then it's time to replace.

    Or if you're not sure, just look at the grooves in the pad face itself. If these grooves are gone or nearly gone, time to change.

    Or you can listen for the grinding noise as the cartridge scrapes along the rim*.


    I run Koolstop salmons myself and am pretty pleased with their performance and very little rim wear.
