Has anyone done any certs on linux, was thinking about doing the LPIC-1 just want to know is it worth it, I'm using linux at home now and want to build up my CV and exp, already have some ms certs but would like to be a bit more diverse.

What distro would be best to test labs on, currently using ubuntu would it be best to continue with that or debian.?

you'd probably best want to use debian & CentOS, lpic-1 and all linux certs would expect knowledge using both apt (debian/ubuntu) and rpm (rhel/centos) package management,

you can learn everything using minimal install versions of both in a vm :)

Ubuntu is close enough to Debian for the purposes of the LPIC exams. You could try running Fedora on a second computer or dual-booting to get familiar with the Red Hat way of doing things (or maybe set up a small CentOS-based server).

If your pc is good enough it's very easy to setup CentOS / Debian virtual machines using virtual box. Then you can have a mix of different OSes to test on

I have CentOS running on my Laptop using VMware.

Currently installing asterisk and compiling it all as i'm studying for a dCAA exam by Digium, the makers of asterisk.

Only useful for VOIP but a linux exam none the less!
