I get the impression that any maintenance you pay your spouse (for her, not the children) is treated as her income, not yours.

You might need to have a legal separation in place.

However, you should investigate the matter properly.

the one parent family credit wouldn't apply to fathers minding children at weekends would it?

    i don't think so

    i assumed it's for a full-time parent no?

    Hi Op,

You can only claim relief for maintenance paid to your ex wife and not for your children.

If you are co-cohabiting with a partner then you can't claim the single parent tax credit but if you are not and you have your children at weekends then you are entitled to the one parent tax credit.

This may have changed but it was that as long as you lived on your own and had your children stay over at least one night in every calendar month then you were entitled to the single parent tax credit.

yes i see that i have always claimed it previously in my accounts -i couldn't recall until i checked

when i log into ros will the tax credits appear automatically ie:personal and single parent

and is the ros process straightforward if i have all the figures ready as it's my first time using online returns

it's only a small business with basic items
