Summer Boredom/Feeling Crap

I know most people love summer and can't wait for it but just feeling a bit crap and non enthused about it in general.

Probably starts with being unemployed. I'm 19, few months off college, and just can't get a job. Having no experience doesn't exactly help, and I'd say being only able to work full time for 2 or 3 months until college starts back is a hindrance too. I've did the handing out hundreds off cv things, lots of interviews, all rejections, usual excuses.

I've tried to find volunteering things etc to related to my course (teaching) but even these are hard to come by, need qualifications etc, and I've kinda left it a bit late to find it as well.

Means I'm bored senseless most of the time, only so many walks and jogs ya can go on. Live with grandparents as well as parents which isn't ideal, so my mood isn't exactly a positive one all the time (he's noisy, borderline alco). Most of the friends have jobs too or are away working abroad for summer, so even doing something together once a week just about happens. Football ended for the season too. Lack of funds starting to become a issue anyway.

Family aren't exactly pushing me out or anything, but even they know I'm bored and just drifting through te time off. I'm bored, feel no motivation, and am a bit lonely.

Any advice in how to stay upbeat, or even where to look for something to do or work etc?

    Hey OP,

I can relate having spend several summers feeling that same way. It's really tough to find work to get experience, and so many jobs require experience so it's a catch 22. I know you say you have looked into volunteering, but how much? I really think that's the best thing to do - both rewarding and it builds your confidence and awareness of what you'd like to pursue. Have a look at some volunteering websites (there are loads of good ones, for example activelink.ie, the local county councils often have one), and try contacting local organisations - they are usually crying out for extra hands and not all need experience.

I know you say money is an issue, but have you considered doing a TEFL course? That would also benefit your plans to teach? They can be pricey and make sure you get a fully accredited decent one, but from what I hear you can quickly earn back what you invest and it'll give you something for next summer (live abroad and teach maybe?) if things don't get easier here.

    Hope this helps a bit!

Just wanted to suggest with regard to volunteering & teaching, Summer Camps might be a good idea. Some of them pay too, but you'll have more options if you're willing to volunteer. There are loads that cover so many different areas, from sports to languages to computers. Many of the big colleges run residential ones where you could live-in too, maybe even get the chance to live somewhere different for a few weeks. Have a Google, you should find a good few.
