Anyone done any of these events. I see there is a 10k race at the end of August in Camlough.

Sounds a bit mad - 10k swim, longest I have done is 3.8k in an Ironman.

Any insights to how it works re getting calories in, format etc?

I plan on doing the Munster 10km race this year,
    http://munsteropenwater.com/

It will be my first 10km race distance, did 8km 2yrs ago.
For this race, not sure on the format. Usually they are laps (maybe 2.5km each) and there is usually a feed area where you drink your prepared drinks. Some swimmers put gels in their togs and take them just before taking their drinks.
