Anyone been n honeymoon in mid September?
Planning on doing 3 weeks so will stretch into 1st week of oct.

We were initially thinking Central America but hurricane season there and not great that time of year in SE Asia. We are starting to think Europe.... A week in santorini to relax initially then onto Italy and maybe south of France to finish.
    Any thoughts welcome.

Did LA and Hawaii in first week October a good few years ago now for 3 weeks. Couple of days in LA...onto Maui and then Oahu (Honolulu) and finally another day in LA on way back. Perfect weather.

Been to Italy in September also...fantastic.

Had the same dilemma this time last year. We went to Indonesia, Bali & Lombok (with a pitstop in the Gili isles), took 3 weeks. Had a great time. Only thing I would have done differently is spend less time in south Bali, it's a bit too touristy, but you can enjoy the luxury treatment in great hotels.

Were tempted by Europe but having been in most of those places previously we went further afield.

all depends on your budget and what you want to do on honeymoon

are you both sun seekers ? want to relax ? sightsee ? do stuff like adventure sports etc.

we went to SE Asia in mid September last year. Had no issues with the weather. You gotta remember rain season there is not like here all year round. If it rains, it's a downpour for a couple of hours and then it's dry. Often rains at night instead as well.
Loved our time there and that time of year it wasn't as hot as their proper summers.

A bit of everything to be honest. Definitely want to relax the first week as will probably be wrecked. After that would definitely like some things to do as would get bored with only a beach or pool to sit at.
Thats my only reservation about southern Europe i.e. finding some adventure to go with sightseeing and sunbathing.

We travelled for a year a while back so have done all of south america, australia, china, malaysia, vietnam, singapore, thailand.....which are a lot of the places people go on honeymoon anyway!

How was the weather in that part of the world?

we've travelled quite a bit too and for you I would recommend some of a holiday that we did a few years ago .... Toronto, San Fran, Hawaii, Maui, Vegas and New York.

while I would recommend the whole thing as a holiday ...its a bit too much travelling for a honeymoon....as you have said you'd like to relax for the first bit.

ok....if you are up for it, I would suggest fly to San Fran and rest there for 2/3 days, the city itself is relaxing and there are a few sites to see and places to visit at a leisurely pace.

From San Fran goto Hawaii (Big Island) - stay on the far side of the Island and hire a car .... there's less tourists around and you can drive to the other side of the island or tour the Island if you wish .... also ...you can take an illegal trek across recently solidified lava to get within 20feet of flowing lava (or you can get a boat tour which gets you approx 20-30feet from lava flowing into the see) .... I cannot recommend it enough - it will be the highlight of your moneymoon and will make family/friends jealous. (a few days here is enough ...3/4)

next Maui ... stay in Lahaina (this will be the expensive part of the honeymoon as accomodation on Maui is very expensive - there are cheaper places to stay but not really suited to a honeymoon).... hire a car... drive around the Island (the Road to Hana is what its called) ....parts of the drive involve narrow cliff edged roads, which are a bit scary ...but if you are capable of driving you'll be fine ! .... snorkelling and diving are great here, you can drive to a place called turtle town - which is basically a cove where you snorkel and there's a high chance of seeing turtles swimming in the sea - you are not allowed to touch them - its illegal, but there's no problem with taking photos.

beaches here are not really that busy - sand is lovely and soft and the sea is warm..... make this the honeymoon stay at least 7 days.

if you really wanted .... go from here to Vegas or New York .... just for 3/4days and head home.

Essentially your Honeymoon would be a week on Maui but a couple of other stops on the way.

we are looking at going back to Hawaii/Maui ... but concentrating on the wedding first and our honeymoon in French Polynesia and Cook Islands.

Temperatures will be in the late 20's early 30's ... we had a headwave when we did Vegas and it was late 30's early 40s for the few days we had....SPF 40 and 50 were plastered on !!

There's loads to see in Europe depending on where you go ... you could goto Greece, maybe do an Island tour ...or do a Mediterranean cruise (we're not big on cruises), goto Italy ...visit Rome, Sicily, Pisa (leaning Tower, Collosium, trevvy fountain, beautiful scenery and fantastic weather), Cyprus is also a great place.... most of Europe has culture spots ...as long as you want to find it and dont mind travelling to get to it.... you could goto Paris, the Louvre, Champs Elysse, Eiffel Tower ... go from Paris to some other destination ...and you can always return to paris for your anniversary (cheap enough to do).

Great, hot and dry. Don't think we saw any rain in 3 weeks. Came back with a nice tan !

ps...to get there we went paris-singapore-denpasar with boat trips and local flights for the rest.

Book something top of the range for your first week, for relaxing....to be fair the south of Bali would work for this, let them spoil you. I would recommend avoiding Kuta beach. Not so nice, full of the Australian version of our knackers.

Note, the water isn't always great for swimming, currents can be very strong and waves pretty high...thats why the surfers like it so much. Also, a lot of beaches are coral. It is very good for snorkelling and if you are so inclined scuba diving, but don´t go expecting carribbean beaches. Plenty of adventure on offer, we did white water rafting for example, in Lombok (def recommend for 5 days) we stayed on an awesome hotel on the beach and had guided tours around the bottom of the volcano, took in some water falls etc.
