Iarnród Éireann are delighted to announce the introduction of €9.99 each way fares from Dublin - Cork for a limited time only. These fares are on selected services daily and quotas apply. What are you waiting for, Book Above Now! Full Terms and Conditions apply.

These fares offer amazing value and great savings when compared to the car.

Seems to only apply on the same 4-5 services every day rather than most of them.

It's a good response to the bus though if the time suits.

If they don't Aircoach is still best value 9 euro single non stop running 18 times a day.

They need to keep that price going. I have often elected to drive down and stay in a B&B because it's cheaper than getting the train rather than do a day trip.

Which part of selected services did you not understand?

Best I could find for Aircoach on Dublin-Cork is 15 euro single. Do you have a link or something?

If you go through the online booking system Dublin City (Westmoreland St) to Cork City (St Patrick's Quay)is €9.

It applies to tickets booked online only.

does the 7 oclock bus from westmoreland street get into cork for 10 normally?

And booked 7 days in advance. 32.99 otherwise for a single ticket. A public relations exercise misrepresenting low fares if you ask me.

How? It clearly states it's on selected services, not all services. Nothing ambiguous about it at all.

I had a look when this was first publicised and there quite a few 9.99 tickets available on a Friday (early, mind you) and I think there were a few on the Sunday and definitely Monday also.

    For the purposes of clarity:
2 out of 15 services on friday at 9.99
    1 out of 14 saturday
    2 of 15 sunday

So that's 5 out of 45 services are at that rate I wouldn't call that selected. You could say a tiny minority of the fares are 9.99 or perhaps off peak fares but so few fares at that rate I'd see it as downright dishonest to call it selected fares.

Just looked at 13th July (Saturday)

    7 out of 15 are €9.99

I'm sure it's a seected number of seats and when these seats go the price goes up, same with a lot of services.

If there were honest and said these prices were available when booked more than a week in advance that'd be fair enough. I'm aware you're arguing they're based on demand but if you look for a weekend fare less than a week in advance you'll see it fairly clearly.

I assume you're talking about air services where there are landing fees and air traffic controllers costs which vary but if you are to make that comparison you're comparing apples and pistachio's.

No, you're just knocking everything about it, when it's pointed out to you that there are many more 9.99 fares available if you're organised enough to book a week in advance you move the goalposts again. This is a good bargain alert, particularly in comparison to the over-priced walk-up fare, end of.

The way you're talking, all sales would be illegal - or they would have to have the entire list of caveats. All sales say from 10% off, up to 50% off, that's the way these things go - can you imagine the ad if it said 9.99 (for a number of seats on a lot of services if you can be bothered to book a week in advance, this number will reduce the closer to travel time you get and must be booked at least 24 hours in advance - it's not exactly snappy!)

I'm not knocking everything about it. The €9.99 is a good fare which is available for less than 50% of trips. I'm just pointing out it's available for the minority of fares.

I'm not saying it's illegal it's just a total rip off. If I can drive somewhere for less than a train fare I'd call it a ripoff.

All I'm asking is for them/you to state fares available for €9.99 when booked a week in advance.

The €10 fare is actually €12 or €13 when you include the online booking fees and it only applies to less then a quarter of daily departures, usually at extremely off peak times.

Meanwhile Irish Rail last month increased the prices of peak time fares by 64%, from €42 return to €68 return, even if you book more the a month in advance!

So really this is just a marketing trick while in fact the majority of people are now paying significantly more then they were just a few months ago.
