Which is better? And how come colleges accept level 5 major and not a level 6 minor? .

    Hi loi09,
I will try and answer as you have asked nearly the same question in 2 threads with no reply.
If you want to gain access to an IT or university through the Fetac route they accept a full Fetac Level 5 major certificate. This would involve completing 8 - 10 modules of study in a plc college. They will also accept a full Fetac level 6 major award by contacting them.
I think you are asking about the business management module level 6 in one of the threads. This module will not lead to supervisory or management role in my opinion as I completed this module as part of a major award in Administration. It is theory based looking at organisational structures, the human resource management section, and writing up an assignment on your own potential company.
I would complete this module only as part of a major award as although it was interesting it did not teach me how to become a manager.
    Hope that helps

The course I was hoping to do which is a minor level 6 business management fetac course has 8 modules would you say business administration would be of more benefit to me in terms of gaining entry to a college?

It would all depend on what college course you wanted to do.
Can you post the course you were thinking about doing?

If I were you I would try and contact the admissions office in the college of the course you wanted to finally do and see what they say.

The business management course you want to do in order to gain access via the Fetac route must be part of a major award.

From the LYIT site about fetac applicants for Business Management course:
    FETAC APPLICANTS
The general minimum entry requirement for graduates of FETAC (NCVA level 2 or 3) awards to LYIT are as follows:
Level & Award at LYIT FETAC/NCVA Level 2 Entry Requirement
Level 6 Higher Certificate full FETAC (NCVA level 2 or 3) award.
Level 7ab-initio BachelorDegree full FETAC (NCVA level 2 or 3) award.
    [/B]

Note that a full FETAC award normally contains 8 modules. A Component Certificate or Record of Achievement is awarded to candidates who successfully complete one or more FETAC (NCVA) level 5 modules. These Component Certificates do not meet the entry requirements. Applicants must have the full level 5 award. In some instances FETAC modules are accumulated over more than one academic year. In such cases, it is the responsibility of the applicant to apply to FETAC for a full award.
Notwithstanding the general minimum entry requirements listed above, some LYIT programmes courses have additional requirements for specific FETAC modules or FETAC courses.

If you want to eventually get into this course through the fetac route you will need to do a full fetac level 5 which also includes the modules: Bookeeping OR Maths Or LC Maths.
I think you had wanted to do the Open College Business Management Module in the thinking that this would gain you a place on the IT course. It will not as it is not a full Fetac award.

I have decided to do a business management level 6 major now but first I must complete level 6 minor award and am doing this to gain a bit of knowledge for adminstration and it as the business management requires modules which I will not be completing .
