A car has cosmetic damage. The insurance company payout their offer less the excess and the salvage value but don't ask for the log book. Can the owner sell the car to anyone to repair and put back on the road?

I had badly hammered car, that was hit to the side wing, and all doors bent including back wheel.Spoke with the agent when he came to asses the car and put in a word to put it into c category-and they did, none the less car was beyond repair
So i think someone would have to evaluate the car,or nct test maybe ?
Only trouble i see, that if you were to get it back on the road and had an accident-insurance company might not cover your damage, that is if they didn't knew before hand.

if its an unecominic repair then you can fix it and put it back on the road, You will need to get an engineers report done on it before the will insure it again.

If the insurance company pays out on the policy, the car is theirs since they've paid the policy holder the value of the car. You may be able to negotiate a buyback if they haven't already sent the car to a scrapyard.

not if they pay out minus the excess AND SALVAGE VALUE. They have left you to dispose of the car as you see fit and if you can put it back on the road cheaply using your own labour, then sobeit

My fiancée had her car wrote off for minimal damage. She bought the car back, me being a mechanic I repaired all damage and got an engineers report from an insurance accessor to say the repairs were carried out correctly. Car back on the road no problems and we still drive it everywhere with no problems
