Yeah the specs for that look fine.

I would look at maybe getting an SSD to speed up boot times, bit more expensive but get yourself an wd passport for extra storage if you need.

Good link where you can build your own spec

    Hello,

I'm thinking of doing the computer science course and I'm wondering what type of laptop I would need? I was thinking of getting this one:

Or would I need a more powerful one?

    Thanks,

A laptop's not actually necessary for the course, although great to have, if you have a relatively modern computer at home you'll be fine.

Power's not as important as you might think for the course. I'd be wary of the 17in screen though. As great as a large screen is for programming (bigger the better) I'd recommend going for a smaller one and hooking it up to an external monitor, that way it won't destroy your back if you want to bring it to college. Also, that has an ivy-bridge cpu, last year's model basically, might be worth looking into getting a newer haswell-based chip.
