Budget: 1200 (not a target obviously, and I can go higher for the right laptop)

Intended use: Lots of Microsoft Office, Programming(C, Perl, Python ), Internet, e-mail, games, movies, needs HDMI out, will only be used wireless so a good wireless card is a must.

Mobility: Mobility is not important, performance and entertainment are more important.

Warranty: The usual year or 2 would be great.

What Operating System do you use? Comfortable with both Windows 7 and Mac OS's, I'd prefer not too have Windows 8, unless I have too or it's seriously recommended.

You can have a look at that, It has a lot of positive reviews and below your price range and I am thinking of getting one myself soon.

P.S Use this for coupons http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/emea/topics/landing_pages/en/voucher_lp?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&s=dhs

When are the 4th gen processors expected to start filtering into machines? it would be nice but not essential to future proof it for 2 years

    Laptop: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/MSI_GE70_1400651.html

There is a laptop with the 4th gen in it but it is expensive and comes with Windows 8 and theres no SSD's or anything but it has the new generation of GPU's

    4th Gen: http://ark.intel.com/products/75117/Intel-Core-i7-4700MQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

Battery life on the MSI looks poor? I thought one of the major selling points of the 4th gen is good increase in battery life.

    Thanks for your help

    http://pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-17/

This would be perfect for your needs it has the new intel cpu and newest nvidia mobile gpu . With the money left over you could easily buy your own SSD and Hard drive if you want more storage .

    How about this?
    It's €1300 so a tad over budget.

    MSI
    ===
    HDMI
    VGA
    LAN Gb
    WIFI [bgn] [2.4GHz]
    USB2 x 2
    USB3 x 2
    1920x1080
    Geforce GTX765M 2GB
    Backlit Keyboard
    8GB DDR3
    4th Gen i7 Quad 3.4GHz
    1TB hybrid with 128GB SSD

2.7 bags of sugar. This baby is a beast.

Looks good thou, very similar the pcspecialist one i posted previously, except 1tb HDD instead of 500.

200 more expensive, is there any benefit in getting a brand name like msi, over a custom build?

For me, it's a matter of piece of mind.

EDIT : One thing that is sticking... I'd prefer 5GHz WIFI. It's not as crowded as the 2.4. Just that you mentioned WIFI is one of your priorities.

    2.4Ghz is fine for me.

Just realised I can remove the operating system with pcspecialist, this is abig selling point for me, saving 93 euro, I can improve the storage ram and wireless card for that.

Well its a clevo barebones kit that alot of the boutique builders use to sell gaming laptops . I'm not 100% on it but I would contact them and ask them will you be able to upgrade the graphics card in future because the Clevo barebones will support upgrades in most cases .
To me buying from another manufacturer like Toshiba or MSI will probably make the laptop more expensive . I mean that MSi is €1,430.93 without delivery and for the same perfromance .
