    hello all,
im planning on booking some flights tomorrow to see a friend in berlin next week,

I will need to bring a CPAP machine with me and i was wondering what is ryanairs policy on this?? im trying to get everything into a carry on so the machine would probabaly fit into this with the clothes i need, but it would be tight.

whats ryanairs policy on stuff like this and would i have to make special arrangements? heard from my sister that i can carry on an extra bag for free if it contains such medical equipment but i dunno if its true or whatever.

also need to carry with me a small canister of gel, would there be any problems with carrying this onboard or would i have to source some over there? its a prescription drug so i dunno if i could even.

    thanks.

What is is a CPAP machine? Is it for your own use due to your own medical condition, or are you a doctor/student/medical equipment salesman, and you need to bring it with you for your job/studies?

If it is for your own use, you should be ok. You just need to get a letter from a doctor verifying your need for it. Then you contact Ryanair, and they will issue a waiver letter for the equipment. Make sure that the doctor mentions the gel too, as only the items mentioned in the letter will be allowed on. (Better get a move on if you are traveling next week btw.)

What is a Medical Equipment Baggage Waiver Letter?

Passengers' with pre-existing medical conditions who need to carry medical equipment/supplies in addition to their checked/hand baggage allowance should contact the Ryanair Special Assistance Line well in advance of travel.
On provision of a doctor's letter confirming their requirements, a medical equipment baggage waiver letter will be issued. Only items listed in the waiver letter will be accepted for carriage free of charge, therefore these items should be packed separately and available for inspection at the airport.

If it is not something that you need for your own personal use, it will be treated like any other piece of luggage & you'll have to follow the same luggage size/weight rules as every one else.

My brother carried his in his on-board bag, can't see Ryanair allowing you to exceed their baggage limits as you do of course have the option of putting it in the hold at your own cost.

With regard to the Gel, if it's more than 100ml you won't be able to carry it on board, so again putting the bag in the hold might make more sense or you can just buy it in a chemist in Berlin.

    Wrong and wrong.

The medical passage quoted above says that medical equipment can be carried separately. You do need to complete a medical equipment waiver form...available on the site.

Similarly essential medicines can be carried in containers over 100ml when there is a letter from the doctor and/or a prescription. http://www.ryanair.com/en/notices/060811-UK-EN
