    Hi All,

Upgrading my system to a haswell build and need a new Motherboard and Memory to go with the CPU. Want to keep it under €700. Anyone in the same situition or just built something similar have any advice on prices/sites to buy e.t.c. Last build was a Core 2 Duo e6600 so I am a bit rusty on the where and what (motherboard especially) to buy.
Got any advice then please post. I'll keep searching the usuall stores.

What will the pc be used for? I assume you want to overclock going for the k series. You're going to want a good cooler for overclocking a 4770k. Will you be gaming? What card do you have currently? Will you be using crossfire/sli in future?

Something like this would be good but could refine it depending on what you are using the pc for.

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i7-4770K Box, LGA1150|€307.74
    be quiet!Dark Rock Pro 2|€72.79
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, ATX, Sockel 1150|€128.09
    8GB-Kit G.Skill Sniper PC3-14900U CL9-10-9-28|€61.08
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€588.69

Thanks for getting back BloodBath. This is going to be a heavy duty development rig mainly, with gaming as a second function. I will have multiple instances of Visual Studio 2012 running along with Virtual Machines and a suite of other development utilities.
I upped the RAM to 2x8 dimms since I think I will need 16gb to start with the option to goto 32 in the future without having to replace any dimms.
I have a VAT number so do you know if I can get the items from hardwareversand.de without having to pay VAT.(What is the german rate?)
I currently have a 8800gt graphics card. Would buying another cheap second hand one on ebay and running them in SLI be a wise choice to hold me over until I decide to upgrade to a better card?
I intend to overclock the hell out off it so the cooler you picked was a wise choice. The only thing is there are water coolers out there for similar prices?
That motherboard seems very reasonable. The ones I was looking at all where ~€200 with some at €300 and above. I know expensive mb's are just a waste of money but am I covered with this mb for the things I laid out above.

I also think I am going to go for an SSD. I'm considering one of these:
    OCZ Vector 256gb
    Samsung 840 Pro 256gb

Which of these ssd drives is the fastest/best or is there another brand worth looking at.

The board is great for overclocking, has better than average onboard sound and supports sli.

Afaik Samsung are making the best ssd's atm.

The normal 840's are still really good drives if you wanted to save some money. They have slower writes but there's not much in the reads. The nand in the pro's is more durable also but tests have shown the normal 840's to be very durable far exceeding what most users would do.

If you are writing a lot of data, say 25gb+ daily, then maybe consider the pro.

I couldn't tell you about the VAT. German rate is 19% anyway.

scan.co.uk will send the goods without vat as long as it is a registered vat number. Also the process is very quick and easy unlike the hwvs

Hi Guys, I have pretty much nailed down my order. Just waiting for a reply from hardwareversand.de about the VAT.
@Evd-Burner I priced the same items on scan.co.uk and it works out about €45 more.
One thing that is still bugging me is the price of the CPU cooler. The 'Dark Rock Pro 2' gets great reviews but at €72 it seems to me, I would be better off going the extra bit and getting a water cooler instead. The following one is just 30 quid more at €104.32. Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro. What are peoples opinions about this? Would it be worth going the extra few euro? What difference in overclocking Mhz could I expect to see by going with water instead of air? Just an estimate as I'm aware there are a lot of variables to take into account when overclocking.
One Final thing Since I have an 8800GT (still not that bad of card btw) already would buying a second on eBay to run in SLI be a cheap way to tie me over until I get around to buying a new one?

    Shoping List So Far
    Item|Price
    Intel Core i7-4770K Box, LGA1150|€303.24
    be quiet!Dark Rock Pro 2|€72.73
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, ATX, Sockel 1150|€134.39
    16GB-Kit G.Skill Sniper PC3-14900U CL9-10-9-28|€120.74
    Samsung 840 Pro 256gb|€191.76
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€841.85

    Thanks,
    john.

You could but you would be better off selling it and getting a newer dx11 card now imo.

As for the cooler again you could if you wanted. There won't be much of a difference in temps of overclocks though if any at all.

I assume you have a case that can house a 240mm rad?

Hey, your right I probably would be better off just getting a DX11 card now.
I'm suprised that you think there would be little difference between air and water. Is this particular to the recommended air cooler or in general.

My current case is an Antec P180 so it should fit.
