corolla 1.4 vvti engine oil capacity??

Hi i am trying to find out the correct amount of oil to put into my 2000 1.4vvti corolla, which i serviced today.
The dip stick is frustratingly hard to see, as i pull the dipstick out it smears the oil and i dont get a correct reading, so please dont just say check dipstick!

I put 3.5 litres of oil into it, does anyone know exactly how much is needed?

For some reason i have 3.7L in my head, and i have searched the net but to no avail.

If anyone could shed some light on this i would appreciate it!

Thats fantastic, thanks for all your help, i also have another problem!
There is a faint rattle whenever i am accelerating, usually in second and third gear, i think its coming from the exhaust/engine bay.
not very specific i know but its kinda hard to pinpoint and it only happens during acceleration and goes whenever i ease up on the accelerator.
Is this a common problem??

sounds like it could be the dodgy inlet manifold baffle problem that they are known for...
