Broken claw on second hand ring

I need the advice of some boardsies. I recently bought an old (circa 1970s) 18ct white gold ring with a sapphire held by 4 claws and then baguette diamonds on either arm. I only have it 3 weeks and worn it three times. I wore it to a wedding yesterday and today noticed that one claw was broken and the sapphire lost. I'm completely devastated and not sure where the onus lies. I'm going back to the shop (antique shop in d2) but are they responsible for this? As I said i am very upset as I know I didn't bang it or snag it on anything. Would appreciate your advice.
