You will be lucky to get your books on time with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭foxy06

Had to cancel my order with them last year after waiting nearly 2 months for books that had to be cancelled. Son started school without them. Would be very wary of using them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,705 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

I was one of the people waiting last year too, with very little communication back from them to a lot of anxious Mums in same boat. Had ordered as soon as I'd got the list, got books the week before school started, after a lot of heartache, and interventions from other Mums on radio programs. (Thanks ladies)

Will never use their services again, the idea was to have my mind at rest, that was a total fail.

After the shambles of a service last year, 10% isn't a great incentive to get people to go back to them. Good luck to anyone that chances their arm this year, I think ill steer clear ..

My man has always used them never a problem

People can draw their own conclusions from the fact that you started the thread and are the only person that has anything good to say about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 495 ✭✭m4rkiz

not only one, i've ordered there in early june last year and they delivered it within a month or so, plus i doubt that they have that many customers this year

but considering last year problems i would recommend to make sure that you can chargeback your card (without being hit with unreasonable fees) in case that your order isn't delivered within reasonable time

i can also recommend www.joycegalway.com - never had any problems with them, they also have 10% off if paid via debit\laser card (or you can choose free covering)

Yea I know I started the thread. But people were saying how bad there service was when my family has never had an issue.

Yea so what if I started the thread what's your point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,359 ✭✭✭Access

Never using them again after the utter frustration they put people through last year.

Never been fobbed off so much and delay after delay before having more hassle cancelling the order and then trying to get refunded.

Sorry if it seems like I am on a bit of a rant... but the utter frustration of dealing with them last year has me out to warn off anyone else thinking of using their services.

I will be getting the kids school books from our local bookshop in town this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭DUBLIN_person

They'll be lucky to get half the business they had in previous years after last year and will need to offer something more substantial then 10%, if they are to have any chance of recovering. And yes, I was also one of the ones affected by their messing last year.

I've never had any problems with them either. I'm aware they had problems fulfilling orders last year, I hope they have learned lessons from that, and will gladly use them again this year. Thanks OP.

This is one company id advise people to stay away from worst people you could ever deal it....if you can get a hold of them + if your not happy about waiting over 1 month to get your books you should go else were.

Did I hear on the radio this morning that they're giving 12.5% off through TodayFM?

Yes, enter todayfm in the coupon box

Used them last year and not only did I get my books in a reasonable timeframe, but when I emailed after the thread started here last year, I also got free book covering (as compensation and goodwill gesture) for not having them delivered within the stated time frame and free delivery was included anyway
but I agree I was lucky as the real trouble seemed to start just after I received my books
Unsure this year, where I will go though

Not a chance of using this company as they let so many people down so badly last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭JabbaTheHut

Used them 2 years ago with no problems.Just happened to use Joyce in Galway last year, and no problems there either. However, after the trouble last year with skoolbooks.ie ,I think I'll stick with Joyce, even though I wasn't affected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,591 ✭✭✭✭rob316

12.5% is some discount on school books I know about this trade its practically giving them away at those margins. He must be really desperate to get business back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭stickybean

I've been looking around, these are the cheapest that I can find, only basing this on 5th class text books (not sure about other book lists), they are all €1 cheaper than schoolbooks.ie and you get free covering, delivery is the same

seems very good, thick and 'soft' transparent foil, i think it will last, i have to say i had to trim the edges in few places but it only took like a minute for all 9 books, still, it definitely saved me a plenty of time

They could be giving me the books for free and I wouldnt order from them again after all the hassle I went through last year, absolute nightmare to deal with. Out of interest what's the margin on schoolbooks? 20/25%?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭magicEye

Order placed with Joyce's Galway on Wednesday night at 10pm for 23 books. I realised yesterday morning one of the books was not right, rang them, changed the book, paid the difference over the phone, order delivered this morning at 10 o'clock in Limerick. Great service, cannot recommend them highly enough!!!

FInd schoolbooks.ie expensive anyway was cheaper and just as easy to dump booklist in local bookshop at 9am and collect the lot at 5.30. Can also recommend omahonys used them for a few schoolbooks last year and delivery was within two working days.

A family member used to sell them stopped 10 years ago, margin scrapping just about 20%. You need to sell to schools then for 10% less. Regularly tells me it was the worst business he was ever involved in.

Between the margin and the high cost of these products you wouldn't make a bob unless volume is absolutely huge. A regular problem was secondary school books say some young one would go into 5th year buy a **** load of books (all new) then decide na im dropping out going doing a trade or something. They would come back to the shop after using them for a couple of months then beg you to take them back and give you your money back. He told me local td and priests would even get involved on there part, shocking stuff.

That was 10 years ago couldn't tell u what its like now but as far as I know its not much different.

    Sorry for going OT

Just as a follow-up to this, there's an option for 12.5% off, or 10% + free postage, in our case it worked out cheaper with free postage. My wife ordered the children's books yesterday morning and they arrived today!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

Is there any current discount code for Easons? (besides the SuperValu discount for card holders) Otherwise, I am thinking of going with schoolbooks.ie despite last years issues. Anyone have any problems with them this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,705 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

Don't know what SV means, I got a 10% discount with Easons a week and a bit ago, not sure if it was just for July ordering. Got my books yesterday :)
Glad I didn't chance the other one, peace of mind, although their covering was great (hard covering.
Eason's covering is the see through plastic but it's fine.

Wouldn't go near schoolbooks.ie after last year. I didnt get my books till mid Sep! I couldn't speak to anyone by phone and no response from email. It was handled so badly...I think I would have used them again if they had answered the phone and just explained to customers what was happened. The customer service was shocking.

I sent schoolbooks.ie a mail 2 weeks ago, asking them if everything was sorted
after last year's debacle (I personally didn't use the site last year).
Still waiting for an answer so I won't be using the site this year!
Ordered off a different site instead.

    www.schoolbookstore.ie

They confirmed by email they were nothing to do with the other site (schoolbooks.ie).
They were 12% off up to end July, back to 10% off now.
Was putting in a large order so wanted the biggest discount I could get.
Website was very easy to use.
They didn't have one of the books but held the order back until it came in.
Being sent out Tuesday so should have them Wednesday/Thursday.

I can confirm that Easons are spot on.

Ordered on a Friday night and they were delivered on the Wednesday morning.

10% off and free delivery on orders over €10.

Just to update that I did go with schoolbooks.ie in the end as my order was small and it worked out the cheapest for me (as I didn't have a discount code for Easons) Made the order late Saturday evening and it was delivered this morning. The book covers are very good and a lot neater than ones I have gotten from other companies in the past.

Ordered yesterday and received this morning by courier.

Second time ordering this month and no problem.

    I went with www.schoolbookstore.ie

Choose between 10% off or free covering - no code needed

    Arrived 2 days later

Though I was a bit sceptical from last years fiasco, I too ordered through schoolbooks.ie as i had seen comments above which said they were delivered promptly this time. I ordered on Tuesday morning, took the 10 % off and free delivery option and received the books by Wednesday morn.. I'm one happy camper :)
