I ordered a new car. I will get it early July for 132 reg.
here's the thing , the sales guy rang me today to tell me that
he sourced the model and colour from another dealer! only to
discover that the other dealer drove the car to his garage rather
than sent it by transporter! now there is 300 miles on it and he says
I prefer to be honest with people so I am telling you this , I will throw
in a free service to make up for it!!!!

Don't buy many new cars ...is this usual!!!

I have declined it and may have to wait a little longer....

find it a bit peculiar to say the least...your views appreciated!

A free service for a used car instead of a new one? Chancer! :D

For some reason over past few years of reading cases like this, it makes me think that in future when I am buying brand new car, I will want to deal with only official dealers, and only pick it up from factory (even if it's in Germany + you get nice adventure). Not sure why but that's just my feeling about car dealers in Ireland.

Seems a long drive considering its a small country. Unless every Tom dick and Harry have been test driving it then what harm. Take the service!

Only reason id have driven a car rather than transport it is if I was in a rush for it. Even then you'd be unplugging certain multiplugs under the bonnet...

At 300 miles will the dealer even bother service it?

I think you're being rather kind there Colm. I wonder if you bought a brand new car off this dealer, drove it for 300 miles and then went back to him and tried to trade it in, how much he'd give you for it?

A lot less than the new cost minus a service cost I'll tell you that much.

What if I registered it, taxed it, never drove it out of the showroom then traded it in? You reckon I'd get a good deal?

Its not like the car is registered.

Never driven is different to driven 300 miles. It's the first 10 metres out of the showroom that a new car depreciates most in its first year (and probably ever in one go), you know that. :)

    Next free service.

300 miles is 290 miles too many for a new car.

Last two cars had 6 miles and 9 miles on them respectively. Considering you're paying top dollar you're only right to expect better OP.

Its the fact that its registered that depreciates it. I've often sold new cars with a bit of mileage on, most customers don't care if it means getting the car sooner.

I don't see the issue. Any new car my parents ever bought had a good few kms on it. I remember even one new van which I collected with my dad had about 500km on it he thought nothing of it although I think it had been driven from roslare can't remember the full story. Any new jeep they bought would always have a few 100 km on it as it may have been driven from one dealer branch to another. The last new car they bought (the octavia) had the lowest km out of them all 2km on the clock. Ironically that car was a demo the rest were all "brand new" :pac:

Op if you don't mind waiting then get the one with with no kms. If you don't care either way take the service and you might be able to squeeze something else out of the dealer.

I hope ye never get around to buying a new Porsche. They all have mileage on them - they are all driven on the public road for shakedown before going back to factory for once-over, and ultimate despatch...........

We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

300km (presume its km rather than miles?) is taking the p1ss. 40 - 50 km is on the high side of acceptable, anything more than that and it should be transported between dealers, unless it's desperately urgent (which this isn't as it's a 132 plate).

Biggest issue you face though OP is if you tell the dealer it isn't acceptable, what other choice do you have? With these things so scarce, it could mean waiting even longer to get one with actual delivery mileage on.

Something isn't really adding up on the story. With such a shortage, why would another dealer give away one from their stock that they could easily sell? Would only really happen if it was 2 branches of the same dealer group, and they wouldn't be 300km from each other. But I can't see if being used for test drive's either - demo's are all registered, and anything that isn't registered could be sold straight away due to waiting times.

I'd push for free service, side steps, mats, flaps and a full tank of fuel to take the one with 300km, or see if another can be sourced in a reasonable time frame.

Not a bad outcome then. Just hope the black one is available in Mid July, should have less than 20km on the clock when it arrives.

Yeah Thks they come into baldonnel and by transporter then... Only thing now is wheels ! I don'tike the steel wheels I have been looking at alloys ( not dacia but similar) the best so far I can see is a set for 400 similar to the dacia ones .. Hoping to get them a bit cheaper then I will be happy! Saving hard !!
