    The cheaper of the two, the Zelos has lower gear ratios which would help in the hills.

    You do need to see the bikes and try the available sizes.

    Patronising a small local dealer rather than a multinational will pay in the long run as you will need advice, adjustments and repairs. Halfords stock looks good but is of mediocre quality. It's pitched at newbies.

    You'll also need mudguards, a comfortable helmet and good quality cycling clothing.
