Mac OS X 10.5 Installation Disk

Does anyone have one of these I could borrow to upgrade a Mac? I have searched online and people are looking for ridiculous prices for them. Apple no longer sell them and some Apple Retailers I have asked will not sell me a disc. They want to install it for me, at a cost of course...

I will return the disc and also, pay for your postage.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Am I right in assuming it's a PowerPC Mac you have ? I might have an install DVD here somewhere. Will get back to you in a while if no one else comes forward.

Apple can still send out original replacement disks at a cost. Think your looking at less than 20 quid including shipping.

    Did you try contacting AppleCare?

I assume you just supply them with a serial number or something? This Mac is an old one I've got from work, just to store my home music. So didn't actually buy it originally.

Indeed, As long as you have the serial number - You should be grand!

I won't get a replacement 10.5 disc, as the machine originally had 10.4 installed!

    10.4? ah......
Sorry I misread your post.. You're looking to upgrade...

I'll see if I can source something else.

Can anyone loan me a disk? I have been trying the last week now, with downloaded versions, without success. As I said I will pay for postage and return ASAP. Thanks.

I can send you a .dmg of 10.5.6 and the updates needed to get it up to 10.5.8. Can you make a DVD from a .dmg ?

You'll need a Dual Layer disk.

PM me your address and I'll send it on a memory stick. Better to burn the disk on your own machine if possible, in my experience DLs can be temperamental.

You could "burn" the dmg onto the memory stick and make it bootable..
It will save the OP from burning to disk and also by using startup manager on the G5 - That will allow it to boot from memory stick and thus install :)

That would be great, if it wasn't too much trouble??

Up to Zenner - He's the poor ol' soul that has the DMG ;)

@Zenner - Not sure what how good your mac skills are so don't be offended if I say this ..

Use Disk Util -> Restore the DMG onto the memory stick - Job done!

    :)

No offence taken. Actually hadn't considered it as I wasn't sure if I could include the Updaters as well as a few bits 'n pieces he might find useful. Just checked and it should all fit fine.

Just waiting for the PM and I can send it on it's way :)

OP, I've 10.4.10, and 10.5.2 on disks if the above plan doesn't work out.

Fair play Black Oil. I'm awaiting a PM with an address to send the Flash Drive to but if the OP prefers Discs then it's all good !!
