Rent relief post 2010

    Hi all,

Question regarding claiming rent relief tax credit from December 2010 onwards. According to revenue's website, any individual who began renting after December 2010 is not eligibile to claim rent relief.

"The credit for the years 2011 onwards applies to individuals who were renting a propety on 7 December 2010. No credit is due to individuals who began renting after 7 December 2010."

My partner and I have been renting privately since 2007, but she was in receipt of a higher education grant until May 2011 and she has been working full time since January 2012. My question is can she claim rent relief for 2012? Does the fact that she wasn't contributing PAYE at the cut off time mean that she can't claim for 2012? Or is the fact that she was paying rent, albeit with a Higher Education Grant, allow her to claim it?

    Thanks in advance
