    A, B, or D are all variations on a design that certainly works. At that price it's not worth making your own. They will suit many insects.

    to echo the above, we have something very similar to C on our wall, left there by the previous owner. it doesn't seem to attract much interest from insects.

    I have found that particular slot type design only ever housed a few earwigs over the years, irrespective of where they were positioned. I'd be interested to hear from anybody who has had notable success with this design.

    yes, south facing but partly shaded wall, right beside some shrubs.
