Sound Bar - Advice needed...

I have a Sony flat screen TV.

    1. Is it best to buy a Sony sound bar? If so, which one?

    2. Can the volume on a sound bar be controlled from the TV's remote control?

    3. Do all sound bars sync sound perfectly with all TVs?

    4. Anything else I should be asking about?

    Thanks.

    D.

    Hi Dinarius

    1. Is it best to buy a Sony sound bar? If so, which one?

Not necessarily but they do have some good ones and if you have a Sony Bravia TV then the Bravia Sync may be useful to you (it seems to be something you are looking for in a soundbar)

    2. Can the volume on a sound bar be controlled from the TV's remote control?

This depends on the model but a Bravia Sync compatible one should do that for you. Some soundbars also have learning remotes (Sonos Playbar) so at least you may cut down on the amount of remotes you have.

    3. Do all sound bars sync sound perfectly with all TVs?

They should do, some of them have lip-sync correction like an AV receiver but most of them don't. I wouldn't say this is a major concern if it's not available on the model you go for.

    4. Anything else I should be asking about?

Any soundbar you get will be better than your standard TV speakers so that is an immediate bonus, but there are a lot of them out there and they will have different specs and prices so you may need to give more info on what it is you want from a soundbar to get the best answer. Also price is an issue, as soundbars can go from €100 to €2000 so you may need to advise on your budget too.
