Nokia Lumia For My G/F

    Hi,

I'm looking to get a new phone for my girlfriend and think of getting her one from the Lumia range. She's had iPhones and Android previously but likes the look of the colourful Lumia's.

I was on O2 and saw the 520,820 & 920. She's credit so the 920 is out of the question. The 520 is only €109 prepay. This seems ridiculously low. Is it crap? Is the 820 leagues better?

She doesn't care about wireless charging and NFC. There's such a huge difference in the price between the two. What are people's thoughts on the 520 and comparison to the 820?

She'll be using it for Internet, whatsapp, Facebook, taking photos, music and games.

Why are you skipping the 620?

The things the 520 is missing vs the 620 are the flash, NFC, Wireless charging, full version of drive app (its Ireland only), the screen isn't as good quality wise or in sunlight as the 620 and above. The 520, 620 and 720 have 512mb of ram vs the 820's 1GB.

    Thats the essential differences.

For the price the 520 is great. Its really about budget after that.

Yeah I'd go for the 520 myself, if requirements are basic. However the 620 does have the added advantage of front-facing camera - if your other half spends a lot of time on Skype this could be important.

I use this website quite a lot when comparing phones - it might help. You might try comparing it with the iPhone your girlfriend used to use and see if she would prefer a bigger or same size screen, for example.

The drive app on the o2 520 is UK and Ireland. I'd push for the 620 for the camera flash. Can be handy to have when taking pics at night.

Took the 520 myself, more or less to try if i liked the Windows phone.
    And i do actually.
Never really liked android on phones or tablets and didnt want to spent 3/4/500 on a win8 phone straight on. Also wanted to have the 720 but that one wasnt available anywhere.

I am on prepay myself with O2 and wouldnt know why this isnt an option for your gf.
I top up €20 a month, 10 is taken out for unlimited call to irish landlines and mobiles.
The 10 that is left i use to get 700mb data for 30 days.
SMS i dont do a lot on a phone because most of the time i am near a pc anyway. Plus with the 700mb data you can easily use webtext or whatsapp as well.
