I'm sure she'd appreciate some strawberry jam for the road.

About 300 bags of Barry's or Lyon's tea.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    AIDS and malaria medicine.

A bomb suit, perhaps? Vietnam is full of undetonated land mines so it may prove effective. There's also the novelty factor I suppose.

Lots of condoms or maybe some form of perserves

    AIDS and malaria medicine.

Give her aids, an incurable disease, then give her medicine for malaria?

What sort of sick, twisted sense of humour do you have?

thinking outside the box, i like that. however...i was thinking something sentimental and something that could be useful may be a better alternative.

Write her a cute letter and give it to her before she goes so she can read it on the plane :)

Also maybe some of her favourite snacks/sweets to bring with her?

    A photo of you two?

A piece of jewellery? It doesn't have to be expensive, I got my boyfriend a worry angel that you could hang off a chain, it's thoughtful and inexpensive, I think €5 in Evolution?

Just give her a picture of you naked in the bath.
    She'll love it.

A lipbalm container with the lipbalm removed and money rolled up in it for using on phone credit or to pay for wifi access so she can call you anytime she needs and never need factor in cash for that? Include a picture of the two of you.
The lipbalm container because it's supposedly safer and less likely to be stolen than a wallet.

I once got a st christophers medal off someone who was very unreligious indeed but I was very touched he was concerned about keeping me safe.A bit traditional but not a bad option.

A battery charger pack that will mean she'll never run out of battery charge for her phone/ipod/whatever. I have one and its fantastic. Carry it in my handbag now so its not only a holiday gift.

One of those kabala style bracelets with love on it. Not sure where you can get one but the attached one is from argos and the symbol means protection which is sweet. Hide a little letter in her bag so she finds it randomly. Maybe record a wee message on her ipod so when she is listening on shuffle mode some day she gets to hear you're voice.

Eh, no. They're grand with a cup of tea or coffee if there's nothing else available but there's not enough chocolate on them.

Still better than the abomination that is the pink snack though.

Where I come we have a delicious biscuit that combines the subtle sophistication of the yellow snack with the raw tastiness of the purple one.

    It's called a KitKat.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Kit Kats are great but saying they're as good as the purple and yellow snack combined?

I have had a Kit Kat before like... They're inferior to purple snacks.

Feel free to send me samples of each, I'll conduct some in depth testing and get back to you.

10 bars of each should be enough for a while, cheers.

Condoms yeah, the backpacking scene is so promiscuous. She'll be getting SLAMMED every night by a different English/Aussie/Canadian dreadlocked hunk.

A machete for self defence. Might be tricky getting it through customs but how much do you value your girlfriends safety?
