Incandescent light bulbs

So the inevitable has happened, the stock of incandescent light bulbs has run out at home, and a bulb has blown.

I've got one of those energy efficient light bulbs in now, but unfortunately it takes a few seconds to actually come on, the light is different and not as bright.

Does any one have any alternatives to incandescent bulbs whereby the light is the same? I can't be the only one who has come across this problem, or does anyone know where you can still get the old fashioned light bulbs?

Was it not just the 100W bulbs that were banned?

Most shops still sell the old-fashioned Solas bulbs
They're mostly halogen these days, if you come across any filament type, then they’re old stock or illegal imports.

First it was 100w then 60w and more recently 40w, smaller ones and those in specialists lamps are still available.

Have energy saver bulbs here for the lights over the stairs and the likes. I find I leave them on rather than just switching them on when I need them because they take so long to put out enough light.

They only have the clear glass bulbs, don't know what the difference is between them and the incandensent ones.

That would explain it all right. I've been buying them for years in the same few shops so it must just be old stock.

Is the ban on the production or just sale? Solus are still showing up to 60 watt bulbs on their site

My eco savers come on instantly. Try some different brands, they're not all as you describe.

^^ Yeah, you pretty much get what you pay for. The higher quality ones are much better and give full output near instantly. Don't expect to pay a fiver for them though.

You get what you pay for.
A good quality CFL bulb will come on instantly and reach full light within a few seconds.

    Top tip:

Keep your old light bulb, it can be fashioned into a pipe for smoking your favorite drug such as methamphetamine!

Sure it's Aldi,I have never seen bulbs in Aldi.I have seen them in our local Euro shop though I'm not sure if they were actually incandescent bulbs or energy savers made to look like incandescents,I assume the former. Pardon me Aldi do of course have them, may be the clear glass or low voltage type do.

you can buy a top of the range LED bulb for €30 or alternatively look a bit harder for incandescent ones, there are still many countries where they're not banned and I'm sure you'll find an online retailer willing to send them to you

A HEATBALL® is not a light bulb, but fits into the same socket!

    ...
The input energy that a heatball consumes is the effort, its heat is the benefit while light portion is the loss.

Hence the HEATBALL has an efficiency of 95%!
