Simon Thornton has won the St Omer open, co-sanctioned between the European and challenge tours.

At least one Irish man has a win on Father's Day.

Great news. Does that mean he'll have full rights on the European tour for the next two years?

I read somewhere that he's 36, will appreciate the win all the more at this stage if life. And also read at 26 he was still off a 7 handicap

    I'm delighted for Simon Thornton.

He has worked very hard at his game and it's great to see him capture his maiden title on the European Tour. I hope that he will continue to add to this title with more good placings.

    Fair play to him. :)

Anyone know how much money he gets for today's win?

    €83,300...not to be sneezed at.

More importantly he has an exemption til the end of 2014 and he gets to enter the Volvo Golf Champions too. :)

Ah, didn't know it was a co sanctioned event. That would explain the abysmal field.
Congrats to Thornton though, should give him the confidence to push on.

The exemption to 2014 should help take a bit if pressure off

Fair play to Simon. Must feel like winning the lotto having a full tour exemption for the next year and a half but plenty of hard work to be done.

Have you any idea where you seen the article big_drive?

Delighted for Simon Thornton he's worked hard but didn't seem to be getting any luck. Let's hope he makes the most of his exemption and pushes on from here.
