We go for six weeks every year - start in France and see where the road takes us. Our eldest was only six months old the first time back in 2001. Depends on what you like to do / where you're going and when. Do you plan to stay in campsites or use Aires? Are you going to the north or further south?
Generic advice is about carrying reflective jackets / spare bulbs etc. has been posted previously if you search this forum. Same goes for toll roads which can be expensive but great for getting from A to B if time is valuable to you. Don't leave home without GPS and a good map if you are travelling. I doubt Mrs SeamusG97 and I would be still under the same roof otherwise.

There's nothing specific I can think of with bringing a small child apart from sunscreen wipes (much easier than liquid) if you are going anywhere warm. Don't bring too much stuff with you as you'll need space for the vino on the way home.

never thought of the wipes, that's a great idea, & of course space for the vino :) we are going to Brittany for 2 weeks in a months time, have booked the same campsite for the time, just testing the water this year hope to go a bit further next year!!! Cheers

pack a good over night bag for the boat you will be on it for 18 hours or so if your going direct. nappies food bottles changes of clothes you be surprised what a one year can go through in 18 hours. uv protected swim wear are great for kids to and we swear by p20 sun cream.

fuel in supermarkets is way cheaper ( 10 cents a litre or more) than in service areas or ordinary garages. you will usually need to pay for this in supermarket stations with credit/debit card though
