This is not for setting up vpn. This is for opening ports for ipsec vpn connection to different device.

Thanks, but that's just an internet security protocol, the VPN is going to look for a username and password.

Ah, do you want to temrinate a VPN on the deivce itself?

No, I use a VPN service and I want to configure my router so all access points to the router will use the VPN settings instead of each individual computer being configured.

did you ever find a solution to this? i'm looking at exactly the same plan

It's not usually possible to configure that kind of VPN access in a DSL/VDSL modem. The modem needs to connect via PPPOE, and they usually only support one connection protocol at once.

The best thing you can do is get a cheap router that supports OPEN-WRT or DDWRT, flash it, and then use that router as an access point for any device that needs to use the VPN.

TP-LINK do a variety of gigabit routers that run OPEN-WRT very well.

If I forward a port on the Vodafone router and use a ddwrt router(connected by lan) with VPN setup on it, will the VPN work? I don't want to get a VPN if it won't work

bazery, what is the reason for the port forward?

I would be inclined to go from LAN port on the vodafone router to WAN port on the new one running OPEN-WRT. However, I don't think port forwarding will work in that setup.

For port forwarding to work, you would have to go between Lan - Lan. This will make everything connected to the Vodafone router visable to devices connected to the second router.

The VPN also has to support port forwarding. I use BOXPN, and I can access my server on port 78, connected through my two routers.

Thanks for your reply. I need to get more specific. I have the hg568c vodaphone router and plan on connecting nothing but my ddwrt router to it. I want the vf router to provide the internet and my ddwrt to manage the network.
Not sure the best way forward to be honest. Any help would be great

I want a VPN then so my torrents won't be throttled.

    Hi Bazery and members

I have put my HG658C into "Bridged" Mode and i use a netgear router running dd wrt - this works fine

Like you just want ONE config of my VPN provider ( PUREVPN)
However I have run into problems because the web config page on the netgear that holds the Vodafone PPOE login details is also the same page that PUREVPN needs to use for ITS PPTP LOGIN DETAILS TO ITS OWN SERVER

So I cannot proceed and am in the process of cancelling my PUREVPN sub i signed up for last week

Anyone any ideas how to get round this problem - like I say DO NOT want to configure device by device ??

Has anyone got any VPN provider working on the HG658c modem either in bridged or unbridged (default) mode ?

I've been looking for a solution for this for a while, 2 1/2 years ago this was the only Modem that Vodafone was willing to use for the high speed broadband, so maybe things have changed and you can get your own modem.

Nope, this is still the only one they supply and support. You'll have to bridge it and add your own router

    Hi guys.

A lot of the above has gone over my head but I am havig VPN issues too, ever since I recieved the HG658c. No issues with my old router.

The issue is that the actual remote desktop connection fails after about 5 minutes everytime I connect. Its beyond frustrating. Are there some settings I need to change to stop this happening?

I've tried Vodafone support but they are hopeless. I'm no genius but one girl asked me what an VNP was.

Could be an IP conflict knocking your connection offline, maybe you can try changing the channel on your router

Yeah, i've done that just to improve the quality of the WiFi. Hasn't made a difference for VPN. Thanks.

Bought this the other day, small device but work great, just plug it into the modem and configure the VPN and then I can get the UK ip address.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AL7P1FU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Very handy for work and some english websites
