I'm looking for a remote desktop / VPS kinda thing where i can set up some programs and they will always run.. and i can remote desktop into it from my normal PC and Mac from anywhere.

it would have to be small so i could store is somewhere out of the way.

    would this work ?

any idea of the cost ?

    Yes it will work

I have no idea of the cost because you didn't say what software needs to run on this PC.

What sort of programs do you need to run? You could use Amazon EC2 if it was very basic programs, and you get a year free, and thereafter its literally fractions of a cent per hour. Only the first tier is free though but that's all you need for vpn sorts of needs, you could definitely run like an irc bnc, apache server and other things like that on a small scale...

I'd need about 2 gig ram / windows / 30gig HDD something like that.

We still need to know the exact use of the PC to come up with the best build.

What exactly is going to run on it?

If its only ftp a web server etc I bet you will get away with using a raspberry pi.

Only €50 and it will connect to any external hard drive.
