    There will always be somebody.

Personally I think you would only be hurting yourself by not doing it even if you dislike your job and feel like you get nothing out of it. At the end of the day its to put down some experience on your CV which is what companies are seeking more and more these days.

I second this. I did Engineering and it is compulsory. I was told it is what helped me get my first job. I had done Intra plus another summer internship.

I think you would be crazy not to do it. What are you going to talk about in the interview otherwise? Even if you have a bad experience, at the end of the day it is experience and you will have learned how to work with people in a working environment amongst other skills you don't even realise you are learning.

Every company is oversubscribed for graduate positions and they are looking for reasons to discard your CV. Lack of experience is only increasing your CV's risk of entering the recycling bin.

You want to be able to have a relevant, interesting and comfortable conversation with the interviewers which will allow you to make yourself stand out from the crowd (Assuming you make it that far). Unless you have had some relevant work experience during the summer(s) I don't see how finishing your degree with no INTRA will make you stand out from 30 other applicants who have. This is from an Engineering student who didn't do INTRA (Did Erasmus instead) and while I enjoyed going away I really regretted not having the INTRA experience.

I'm just finishing up my INTRA placement now (I'm in business too) and there were definitely days that I wished I had not done it and went straight into final year.
That being said I would definitely recommend you doing it. You get paid for the year, is great experience and helps you figure out what kind of area you would like to specialise in for final year. The place I'm in even offered me a job for when I graduate, so I'd have to say it's 100% worth doing!

Grades are way higher for Intra students in the final year too, seems to be something to do with the professionalism of the work experience. There's also some excellent placements. I'd definitely go for it. Otherwise you're going to be competing for jobs afterwards with other graduates who have your same degree plus also have a year's worth of relevant work experience.

Intra without a doubt. You need to be building experience ASAP in how the real world works.

Currently in my final 7 weeks of INTRA. I'm in MINT so its compulsory.

The role i'm in is a bit crap and has no link to marketing but I don't really care. The company is great and everyone here is great. They have loads of training courses that I have been sitting so when I apply for jobs I can say I worked at amazing company x and I studies y course and z course.

It's not going to be all about the job that is advertised, it will be about what you personally take from it and use that going into final year and interviews.

Also its good for establishing a routine of actually working every day. If I go back into college and do half the hours (go to college and do 4 hours work a day) I will be laughing :pac:

Just finished my INTRA there, couldn't recommend it highly enough, the company I was in, got treated like a proper graduate and never treated just like the 'intern'. In saying that, I have heard that not all companies are great, but it seems the vast majority are quite good. Regarding the INTRA office, they are great at getting you placements, however, once you get your job, you won't hear sight nor sound all year from.
I never had anyone out from the INTRA office to assess me throughout the year and they never contacted my manager at the end of my term to get his evaluation. As far as I know, the other interns never had an intra tutor visit during the year either. So just make sure your happy with the company you pick/get as it could be a long year!
